New Works: April 25th-26th 2016

“I was on the 63 bus and found someone had left their homework on the
seat. It was about a boy named George.” Joanna Weller
Joanna Weller examines the resonances from another imagined life
discovered in a found object, with her own.
In “The Family”, Joanna has used old family photos printed onto muslin
and placed herself in the work in the form of a T Shirt bearing a phrase
from George’s story, “notice me more”.
“The Camp”, recreates child’s play. A small place that we make safe by
ourselves. Joanna has used embroidery and family photos to offer a place
of safety for George.
“The Pram” is in response to the final paragraph in George’s story. Pram
and coffin are juxtaposed in the fight for life.
Joanna Weller is a London based artist, who as a child played with her
mother’s buttons, curtains and fabrics to create a new and safe world.
In the 70’s she worked as a textile designer in design studios in Lyon.
On returning to the UK she trained and practised as an Art Psychotherapist.
